Con Report: Anime Oasis Day 2 (Friday)
Tasunke here, the second day of Anime Oasis Nana for us involved the playing of many more video games. Including Ajii, Razorfang, and Dokutaru getting “beaten like redheaded stepchildren” at Puzzle Fighter by the con chair Jeremy, as Ajii put it when I asked him (though he at first used a more… colorful metaphor). We also finally got to play Rock Band, and I have to say, I really want that game. But, I’ll probably have to wait for the PS2 or Wii version.
Battle Cosplay didn’t have as much energy from Jeremy as we’ve seen in previous years. But it was still fun. A team of two ninjas (”Ninja” and “Extra Ninja”) and Ikkaku from Bleach won that set of matches. There will be another set on Sunday. For those unfamiliar with the concept of Battle Cosplay, an explanation from the Anime Oasis website (including a video demonstration) can be found here. There have been changes this year. Previous years only had 2-person teams. This year they are three-person teams.
I quite enjoyed the Para Para panel this year, hosted by Fandemonium. Unlike the Para Para panels I’ve attented at Sakura-con, this one actually covered some basics and walked us through the routine for “Made of Fire” (which can be found on the Konami game Para Para Paradise I mentioned in my last post). The woman running the panel also took the time to give personal instruction for those that were having issues with certain parts of the routine. I really appreciated that.
The unrestricted cosplay was parts amusing, disturbing, and…. odd. But it’s definitely not something you’d see at any other convention I’ve been to, and I think that’s the idea. Anime Oasis prides itself on unique events such as the unrestricted cosplay.
That’s it for now. See you tomorrow!
(Sound off about my AO Nana reports here.)
